In sweltering temperatures hitting the 100-degree mark, students from four high schools recently gathered for a summer Football Camp at South Gate High School. Along with the practice and sweat, the youth earned pointers from several former professional footballers on improving their game and making it to the top. One of these professionals was the South Gate Rams’ own coach and former New York Jets defensive back, Reggie Grant.

In addition to the tough workouts and personal coaching the student athletes received, they signed a pledge created by the Foundation for a Drug-Free World in honor of the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Originally proclaimed by UN Resolution in 1987, the UN Day is recognized around the world annually and highlights drug awareness and education. The pledge is a promise to be drug-free, educate themselves and others about the harmful effects of drugs, promote the benefits of being drug-free, and to set a good example for other athletes and the world.
